What the Captain held out was an unfamiliar book.
It was different from the recipe books they knew. This wasn't simply a book that recorded recipes to make someone happy.
It was a cookbook for creating and recording Dream Foods, which could only be completed when Maple's cooking skills were combined with Muffin's plushie-star magic (starlight energy and dream powder).
Neither one alone could make it.
When a Dream Recipe is finished and starlight dust is sprinkled on top at the very end, guests can see their own beloved plushie for just one day.
A reunion with a long-forgotten soulmate. In that moment, the plushie comes alive again, and the guest reclaims the childlike heart they had lost.
And so Maple's shop became more than just a restaurant - it became a place that brought forgotten things back to life.
And on the day the Dream Recipe Book was completed, a change came to Muffin too.
No longer just a plushie who came to help Maple for a little while, but an eternal kitchen partner who would complete Maple's cooking. By the rules of the stars, Maple's need for Muffin would now last forever - and so Muffin was granted permanent residency in this world.
Not vanishing, but eternity.
The miracle they would build together with Muffin finally had a name.
